I don't think we need to "screw BF" just yet: this is a 720p set, and it's 42"...not the 46" I've been hearing about. That's not to say that a 42" Samsung for $700.00 isn't a good deal, it's just not quite as amazing.

Just a note - the 42" = "1024 x 768 pixel resolution"

BB BF ad also shows 40" Samsung for $799 - the model numbers are the same so does that mean it's best to get it now than waiting in line? I talked to Sales rep yesterday & they said the BF Samsung is an older model than the one currently on sale - not sure if he's just pulling my leg. What do you guys think?

I think the sales rep is wrong. I picked up the same model this morning from Circuit City (same price but they let me use a AAA 8% off coupon) and they didn't even have the TV out for display yet because they just got them in according to the sales guy I dealt with. Bought the TV for my parents. Set-up was easy and the HD picture was great.

The BB sales rep is 100% correct. BB currently stocks the LN40A530, LN40A550, some 600s and some 800s. The LN40A500 is a scaled back version of the 530 (only difference I can tell is 2 HDMI vs. 3 on the 530). The LN40A500 is not normally stocked by BB right now (wasn't even on their website prior to today, 11/23) and is purely stocked as a holiday promotion set. Good deal, especially when adding a 10% coupon (I got one from MC).

The site is wrong. 720p is not 1024x768 (4:3)

It can do 720p since the vertical resolution of the TV is 768. You're confusing your aspect ratio with your scanning format. The site says it can do 16:9 (widescreen), if that's true but you will get the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. Someone correct me if I am wrong..

There are conflicting info on the site:
* 1024 x 768 pixel resolution
* 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio

Who is still making/selling 1024 x 768 (4:3) TV?
