I ordered one to hopefully do this.

It's the cheapest I could find a non-refurb, non-pull 1.8" drive. Good to have handy if your iPod dies too.

LET THE eCost THREADCRAPPING BEGIN!!

Thanks for the green, folks!

Uh....OK....if you need one of these I guess it's a good price.

What I don't get is why you'd replace the SSD on an Aspire One with a hard drive when it's easy to buy one with a hard drive already installed. But that's just me.

What is the perceived problem with eCost.

in my experience, eCost is not a place where deals are typically found

That might be true, but when a deal is found it's found and can stand on it's own merit, I guess.

Not saying I'm jumping in on this one.. I'm just sticking to flash.

I have an older version of one of these - bought it 2 or 3 years ago when it was the cat's pajamas. It is not the fastest device, but it has yet to let me down. And way back then, 20gb portable storage was tough to get without spending a ton of money (mine cost $60 or so, I believe).

with 16gb USB solid state drives being $20-$30, why would you get this? is transfer rate typically faster than flash memory ? its certainly much bulkier.

Maybe good for an old (really old?) laptop, steal the drive out of the enclosure and use it. Can't see much other use for it, I agree with Grizybear.

It's way overpriced for what it is. No thanks

I am wondering also, I ordered something from there that came quick, charged me correct, and did not have any problems....so why does everyone hate them?

Generally, their customer service is abysmal - heaven help you if something you order isn't quite right. IIRC, they haven't been great with helping out on rebates either - and are they still adding on that mysterious, non-discountable 'Handling' charge when things are shipped?

Even if the deal looks killer (and it rarely does there), it's a bit of a crapshoot - if you get all your stuff first try, and everything works fine, you win, but if not, the process becomes VERY annoying.

(EDIT: D'oh! Went there to look, and the drive alone is just $18 - but the lowest priced shipping/handling is $9.50! I see they're still up to their old handling-fee tricks...)

Because I already have the SSD version... the price of early adopting!

I have stopped dealing with eCost. With the problems that I have encountered so far its not worth to try. They change the price and will not honour rebates without any explanation.Customer service is the worst I have seen sofar!!!

Okay, just FYI, the drive came today, in perfect condition, billed as said.

Unfortunately, the drive inside has a standard IDE interface, so it won't work in the Acer, but I should be able to get most of my money back on eBay for the bare drive.
