One for the bedroom at that price would be nice ... too bad Iam in Calif . |
EVERY retailer is dumping this model for this price. Note Electronic Expo is VERY shaddy. Once you pay you CANT return no matter whats wrong with the unit. They make you check to see if TV you're buying is good inside the store before you leave! They dont even allow exchanges. I dont shop there ever. Why is this model being dumped? Its 3 years old |
My son purchased this exact set from Expo in July '08. I had my doubts about this store, but everything worked out fine. They had the lowest price, plus they offered a $50 gas card rebate. We got the gas card in less than a month. They did open the box in the store, but I didn't mind because if there was a problem, it would've been better to get another unit right there and then. Yes, this is a 720p model and it looks like Panasonic will stop making 720p sets in favor of only 1080p sets. There are enough comments in other threads and sites like AVS where most people are perfectly happy with their 720p sets. Whether to spend more to get 1080p is up to you. The price differential has decreased since July, so for another $150-200 you may want 1080p. It was more like $400 when my son purchased his set, so the decision was easier. I'm pretty sure the PX80U is about one year old, not three. Bottom line, it delivers a great picture at a great price. |
BullishDad said: 720p = 1280x720 Again this is a NON-standard resoltuion which means it will scale content to fit. You will never have a TRUE HD picture. |
onion said: This is NOT a 720p set. Its 1024x768 XGA resolution not 720p. Yes, I concede that the resolution is 1024x768, but this is commonly listed as 720p class. And while it's true that the picture has to be scaled to fit, Panansonic plasmas are known to do a great job scaling. This is one of the strong attributes of the set and why it is generally well regarded. Have you actually seen the picture on this set? Watching a live football game is a thing of beauty. Most folks would never be able to tell the difference vs. the 1080p set, especially on a 42" screen. |

i have this tv, and paid 799+tax at Sears... great set, love it, plenty inputs, great sound, nice design... sure, its 720 or xga whatever you call it, but the image looks great, and at 600 its a steal... |

If you know another 42" 720p flat panel tv (plasma or LCD) for about the same price and could deliver equal or better PQ, please post it here. And, when that Laser TV hits the market for the same price, I'll be the first one buy it. |
"And you'll get a name-brand with good support if something goes wrong, not a low-baller like Vizio." I've never owned a Panasonic, but having owned a Vizio I take issue with your statement. Vizio doesn't expect you to box up your TV and ship it out for repair, they will actually send a technician to your home and fix whatever is wrong with it onsite. I think that's far from ""low-baller" customer service. I'm quite happy with the Vizio we've had for almost 2 years, and have recommended them to family & friends. For their price level they are hard to beat, and we've been very happy. What happened with your experience that was so awful? |

I just wanted to see the other retailers's prices on this unit, which I already own. I found This here. It shows prices of $526, and $572 w/o shipping and tax for this model. Prices have really come down. Too bad we are in such a crappy economy, and becuase I think the economy (for me locally) is going to get a lot worse before it gets better, I prolly should not spend for Black Friday this year. Good luck to all. |

Whoa! That's a deal breaker. Sorry just did a quick check. I'm definitely an in-store p/u kinda guy. You guys save us tons o' green. Isn't the Micro Center Sony 40" HDTV 1080P for $799 an xlnt price? |
The panasonics are great plasmas. I got my 42-inch about 2 yrs ago and still think its a superb set. I was one of the lucky ones able to get this at a steal of $425 during the Best Buy deal (was $1600 at that time!). Anyhow, for the current price, its a great set. Are there better ones out there? Sure but they will prob cost you an extra grand. |
