damn, I just got a Garmin for $200... I had a Mio, that got stolen, that I really liked. This one is $99, free shipping. I am tempted to see if I can return mine and get this one and save $100...

This thing is great. I got mine thru the Staples deal a few months ago. Added a SDHC and now have the latest Mio Maps, IGo & TomTom running on it. Definitely a recommendation if you're looking for a solid GPS unit.

Does it have TTS?

not out of the box, but you can unlock it and load voices that are TTS. works great

search in this forum. It's not native but with the included usb cable and optional SD card/reader, you can install the MioPocket "hack", which not only has TTS but other goodies like a media player, games, etc. You have to put an hour or two in, though.

Why all three?
It's a serious query. . .
Also, would you (or someone else) be kind enough to write down the short version of details and links on how to hack?
- Mio, iGo & TomTom
- TTS
- PDA
- Video Player
- mp3 (guess that's built in)
I did try to read the Stapels thread. Too confusing! and many of the links work no more.
Thanks!

is it just me or does it take a long time for the mios to pick up the gps signal? it takes me anywhere from 5-10 minutes to pick up signal

Mine picks up a signal very very quickly unless I start off from the underground garage. If starting it from outside it picks up a signal within half a block.

C520 has Bluetooth and 2GB of memory (C320 no BT and 1gb)

C520 was $150 for couple times. I think it was worth it.

I put Igo8 on it and love it.

I don't think anyone here going to write how to hack it. You have to do your reading yourself.
Check www.gpspassion.com and www.gpsunderground.com You'll find everything you'll need.

A couple of different answers here:

1) Because I can.

or

2) Every piece of software has different strengths. IGo8 uses Teleatlas maps which are not that good, but the UI and POIs are excellent and easily updated. Adding themes and different TTS voices or schemes are also easy to do. MioMaps comes with the unit and all I had to do is upgrade the maps to the newest, again very easy. TomTom was a little harder to install because of how the sw is locked down, therefore I only did it as a challenge. Mostly use Igo8 though. MioPocket is the easiest way to go for unlocking the C320.

Make sure the battery is charged, and that you have a clear, un-obstructed view of the sky. Having said that, if I turn it on while still, it takes just a few seconds (8? 10?), and is pretty accurate. If I turn it on while moving, it takes very slightly longer, and is sometimes off by a few feet to a few yards; I guess depending on the speed at which I (it) am moving.

iGo8 is much better than the Miomap. If you get C320, put iGo8 on it. Great deal BTW.
