Just saw an endcap at the local Sam's Club last night, that had about a dozen of these Vizio 42" LCDs on it:

Looked like a pretty good deal for the price. The sign with the price said "one time buy", so I assume this is a closeout? The chassis looked a bit like last year's Vizio's. Silver at the bottom and shiny black plastic around the screen.

Model # is VS420, which seems to be new to me.

The next step-up, Vizio-wise, was the 42" LCD w/120Hz refresh and it was $300 more.

Any comments, complaints, suggestion on the cheaper 42"?

uh..... so? Are you planning on generating your own AC using things you can find around the house?

Not everyone is up-to-date on the 120Hz craze, but that doesn't warrant pulling their leg

mrvisitor, 120Hz is the screen refresh rate for newer LCDs. Check this out at Sam's Club: 120Hz LCD

^And 200hz is on the way. There will always be something better on the horizon.

120hz, jeez what a piece of crap, I'd never buy that worthless television. Picture probably jumps all over the screen. I think you only see every other frame.

Thanks! I picked one up today at the Sam's at Franklin Mills, Philadelphia. They had about 10 more on the floor. The box says "limited edition".

Not a completely true statement, it really depends on the proximity to the screen.

I agree but most people sit at least 10 feet away from their TV and there isn't a noticeable difference at that distance between 720p and 1080p on a 42". It is noticeable at 10' on a 50".

1. native 1080i content looks better than on a 720p
2. it makes it a possible computer monitor, while with 720p it wouldn't work for me, or for most
3. native 1080p content is here and more is coming, it does make a difference at this size. not as much as with a projector, but it does matter

........32" on the other hand, i'd generally say it doesn't matter.......but again only if you don't want it as a pc monitor, so there

i'd say that's a bit of a stretch. i don't sit that far, i'm sure i'm not alone

I'm thinking about getting this TV, but I have a hypothetical question...

What would be better for a 42" TV that will be viewed from about 12'-15' away.

720p with 10,000 to 1 Contrast Ratio?

Or

1080p with 1,000 to 1 Contrast Ratio?

Thanks!!
