Microsoft has been selling Equipt, which is (now was) an attempt to get people to pay for Office Home/Student 2007 and Live One Care on a yearly license basis ($69.99 for 3 PC's). They've just announced (http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=1729) that they are killing off Live Onecare and Equipt. However, they also announced that if you have Equipt, they will refund the unused portion of the yearly license fee when it is killed next year, AND they will give you a free permanent license for Office (http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-10101562-75.html). This means that if you buy it now for $69.99 (Circuit City seems to be the only place that sells it, I believe), you can potentially get some money back, AND you get a full 3 User Office Home/Student 2007 license. To quote from that second article:

As for existing Equipt subscribers, they not only will get a free license to Office Home and Student, they can also call and cancel their subscription, get a pro-rated refund and still get the copy of Office. Gordon said that Equipt buyers tended to be Microsoft's early adopters and said that "We really want to make sure they are taken care of."

Not a bad deal (especially if you call almost immediately to cancel). Buy it quickly if you want it since I believe that MS is going to be recalling the product. It's still in stock at CC

Remember to use FatCash for Circuit City.

That's the Firedog installed version you linked to (do you trust them to install it for you and/or are you unable to do so yourself). I guess I should have made it clear, the $69.99 version is also 3 PC's. I updated the first post (I had accidentally said 3 year rather than 3 user)

any comment?

This looks like it might be worth a shot. No CPG rebates to deal with and Microsoft isn't filing chapter 11 anytime soon. CC is in serious financial trouble but you should be fine as long as they ship the product or better yet, order for in store pickup. If you want to try this deal, do it soon as Microsoft is recalling unsold copies from retailers.

I'm jumping in.. There does seem to be a little bit of risk with these end-of-life kind of deals, but 70 bucks for 3 working office licenses does seem real good.

I'm in, too. BTW, CC has an extended holiday return period through 1/31, so should something come out about the refund before then that makes this less attractive, we can still return it, so long as the package is sealed.

Estimated delivery date is 12/3-12/9. What a joke!

Thanks, Bill. Site didn't work last night around 10 p.m. EST, but worked fine this a.m. Delivery Dec. 3-9 for me too, which is fine, no urgency.

Don't forget home and student 2007 doesn't have outlook which imho makes it pretty worthless.

I def use Outlook @ home, but I know that a LOT of my classmates don't and this would be pretty valuable to most of them. Thanks OP.

Would it be possible to install this and keep using my older copy of Outlook? Not sure if they would be stepping on each other in some way...

I was wondering the same thing.

Seems like a good deal for existing Equipt annual license users.

For others, one alternative to buy/cancel/change would be to wait for the Black Friday price of $69.99 (Best_Buy and Circuit_City) for MS Office Home/Student 2007.

I'll jump through a hoop or two for this deal. On BF the deal you are quoting will definitely be $69.99 while this deal has the potential to make it nearly free. Not a tough choice for me.

you can in fact install this, then buy outlook (2007) then install that and you'll have all the components.

you can get some really whacked out setups if you run outlook 2003 with this office version. but it works.
