Some issues people want to look at:

The affected part numbers for the write caching delay issues are: 9JU138-300, 336 with firmware revisions SD15, SD17, or SD18.

Unresponsive for 30 seconds at a time.

I have 2 of these in a Windows Home Server. Every hour or so my drives start high activity, and there's a loud click every 30 seconds or so. If I look in the logs, there's an error like this every 30 seconds:

***ERROR: DEfileFromShadow(filename) took too long 5360.1575ms

Basically, the drive is timing out for 30 seconds or so, which exactly matches all of the trouble reports on the internet. These drives have a serious unresolved issue, and I would definitely suggest avoiding them until Seagate figures out what the problem is.

In for 1. Couldn't resist. I think I'll just let this sit around for a week or two until there is more of a consensus on the firmware update. Who knows, the price may even come down by then.
