W Hotels and Starwood have just released their employee discount code for November. Good for 40% off the W Hotels mattress, pillows, sheets, blankets, vases, lamps and everything else on their site. This is supposed to be only for W Hotel and Starwood employees but they will honor it for anyone that uses it. Good luck.

I think that's because when you order the Pillow Top, you get the Low Profile 5.5in Box Spring instead of the regular 8.75in Box Spring. That's to make up for the extra 3 inches of mattress.

OMFGWTF said:Why don't they just lower their prices by 40% for everything for good? It seems that they have a 40% off code every month for the entire year.

Also, I am interested in a queen pillow top set with the box spring. However, the box spring when compared to the plush set is a insane $300 more. I have read of other threads that it is the same box spring as the plush set. Does anyone know where to get the box spring elsewhere? If anyone is around the NYC area and ordering the queen plush mattress and does not need or want a box spring, I'd be glad to take the box spring for up to $150. The box spring for the plush is only $78 + tax more. However, the box spring for the pillow top is $234 + tax more.

I am not in the NY area, but if anyone in the Cleveland area wants a W-Hotel Queen Box Spring, PM me...mine will not fit up our stairs...

FW is not for selling stuff, so we will discuss it offline...

Check craigslist... there are usually uncountable box springs there for sub-$50, or free.

Gotta watch for bedbugs when purchasing used bedding.

You are SO right! I've heard horror stories of people buying used mattresses infested with bed bugs and having to burn/demolish/break down everything in their house a few months later. The thought of bugs crawling around in my bed, late at night, sucking my blood, feeding on me is absolutely disgusting. And there is no better way of picking them up than by bringing home an infested mattress.

Cheers!

Any idea how they monitor these employee discounts? Do they ask for any verification upon delivery? Has anyone used it that is not an employee?

Uhm, if you haven't noticed, most people who order are from deal sites and are not employees. They don't seem to monitor it or check. I've ordered one and didn't have a problem. Even had to call them afterward to confirm my shipping address. No questions asked.

410 TRUE thread count.

most claims of 650/1000 etc, are actually triple threaded and not as soft.

Just the usual word of caution to mattress shoppers: just because this is a good deal (and it is), does not mean that it is the right deal for you. When it comes to mattresses people's comfort preferences vary WIDELY, so many mattresses that work for some people will cause excruciating pain to others.

These are good quality mattresses in the Simmons Classic line (not Worldclass, as has been incorrectly noted in some of the previous threads). This does not take anything away from the mattress, however, since there is no direct correlation between the amount of money that you spend and the comfort that you achieve in a mattress. At the same time, I find the W mattresses to be far too soft and not sufficiently supportive for my taste and, personally, much prefer the extra firm and cushion firm mattresses in the Simmons Worldclass line with 1260 coils and a memory foam layer (the memory foam layer on these mattresses does not have the slow sinking feeling which I hate of regular memory foam mattresses).

Again, this does not take anything away from this deal -- just make sure that you'll be comfortable on these mattresses or it won't matter how good of a financial deal you got. Otherwise, you may find yourself in this situation.

Just to put in my two cents: my brother forwarded me the "October" Employee Discount code and in mid-November, the 40% discount still worked. I'm sure they'll keep the 40% off going. I ordered the king sized pillow top mattress with a low profile box spring and bed frame for about $1100 - this is an absolute deal. I think in the October Employee code thread, someone put together a lot of excellent background mattress information on the W bed. To confirm, this particular mattress would be the equivalent to the "World Class" Simmons Beautyrest styles that you'll find in stores. Without knowing this deal existed, I went to Sleep Train, Mattress Discounters, and Macy's to try out a few different mattresses. As geo123 noted, it is really critical that you try out a mattress before purchasing. Everyone has different anatomy and different preferences. Even between the plush and pillowtop models of this mattress, you will feel significant differences. After trying out a lot of different brands, my husband and I found ourselves consistently attracted to this particular mattress. We got quotes for over $2000 for a whole set (the Sleep Train and Mattress Discounters were happy to keep adding incentives to purchase at their store), but we just weren't prepared to pay that much. After finding the fatwallet thread on the W Mattress, we decided to make the purchase since we had already done our try out session.

My brother has this mattress that he purchased through the same deal over a year ago. He decided to get this mattress after staying at the W hotel. He still loves it. I am so happy that we found this deal - we got our bed last week and it has been such a fabulous change. Granted, we had our previous mattress for a long time and were suffering some aches and pains so ANY mattress would have been an upgrade I purchased a couple of latex pillows from Overstock.com for $30 each and I'm already feeling better!

So, I live in San Diego and it took just about 3 weeks to have it shipped. My brother said that 1-800-mattress stocks this product so there may not have been a local branch here. The delivery company called us and gave us a delivery time. The delivery folks called 30 minutes prior to delivery. Set up was speedy and they took the old mattress away. Just an FYI, it isn't in the "delivery" to also take away old furniture... only the mattress/boxspring, so just prepare for that if you have an old bed set up that you want to discard.

Regarding the bed - this is not for you if you like firm beds. It isn't that the bed is too soft or supportive, the mattress (especially with the pillow top) is designed to give a little more - if you are a side-sleeper or a belly-sleeper, you should like this. We compared this to the standard classic beautyrest and although the classic line is good, we felt that this one gave a little more support. We tried the Sealy posturpedic line - definitely sleeps differently. With the Simmons line, you "sink" a little more into the mattress whereas the Sealy's you sleep a bit more on top. Again, for those who roll around more in their sleep, the Simmons may be a better choice BUT YOU REALLY SHOULD GO TO A STORE and at least lie on the bed for a while before you purchase.

Very happy about this purchase... just wish that it was delivered a week or so earlier, but we are sleeping very well now!

drdonuttail said:To confirm, this particular mattress would be the equivalent to the "World Class" Simmons Beautyrest styles that you'll find in stores.Sorry, that's incorrect.

The number of coils in these mattresses indicates that it belongs to the Classic line. Simmons uses the coil count in the Queen sized mattresses(here is a link to Simmons' website, which confirms this) to decide whether a mattress belongs in its Classic versus Worldclass lines. As such, a Queen W mattress has 825 coils, which puts it in the Classic line. To confirm, just take a look at this Simmons Beautyrest Classic "Adrian" Plush Mattress Set sold at Macy's -- it is a Beautyrest Classic with 800 coils. I've previously spoken with Macy's and Simmons and they've confirmed that this is essentially the same mattress as the W mattress with 25 fewer coils. I've also tried this mattress at Macy's and one at Nordstrom and don't see any difference (as I posted above, they are way too soft for my taste though and I feel like I don't have enough support but that's always subjective).

As you can see from this link taken directly from Simmons' website, a Simmons Worldclass mattress has 980 coils in queen sized mattresses. W Hotels have the "worldclass" label on them because their queen mattresses have 825 coils, which puts them ever so slightly above the Classic line (by 25 coils). In other words, in this case the label is somewhat of a marketing trick to cause people to think that they are getting more mattress for their money. Please note that Macy's price is very similar to the price at which the W mattresses sell and further discounts are pretty easy to obtain off the Macy's price with things like 20% off giftcards.

Again, this doesn't take anything away from this deal or from this mattress and if it is comfortable, you won't care about the label on it.

P.S.
To clarify, I am not trying to threadcrap and am certainly in no way implying that this is a bad mattress or is a bad deal. I just want to make sure that people realize that in purely financial terms, this is a decent but not an amazing deal and can be fairly easily matched by other retailers. Hence, if you like this mattress, then by all means buy it. On the other hand, if you are looking for slightly different characteristics in a mattress, you can fairly easily get them through other retailers at a price that's just as competitive without any haggling (you can't haggle at Macy's or at Mattress Firm, for instance). For instance, while the W Hotels only offer two comfort levels, you can get way more comfort levels of this mattress through other retailers. For instance, Macy's sells the Cushion Firm and the Firm versions of the same exact mattress for the same $897 price (minus the 20% off, if you can get it through gift cards). By the way, I do not work for Macy's, am in no way affiliated with them and am not endorsing Macy's in any way. I am just referencing Macy's inventory here because it is very conveniently available online (and because their 20% off gift cards are relatively easy to obtain).
