The reviews on the egg *are* decent. Good deal if you're not running anything too high end... and you know who you are. |
Don't need to buy ram this time to get a good price. Active PFC to save energy.

I agree w/ everyone, that at this price, w/ rebate, no tax, from Newegg, this seems like a decent, good quality, efficient, mid-level, OK, usually sufficient, acceptable, power supply. (Translation: Probably the best cheapo you will find). Only apparent, potential issues may be rebate, cable lengths, # of cables, no 8-pin 12V MB power, and max. watts for high end, or multiple video card systems. Need a replacement for a used system, or a new budget system, but are thrifty - great choice! EDIT: OCZ bought out / took over one of the best power supply manufacturers of all time, PC Power and Cooling. Therefore, I expect great things from OCZ in the future. |

So which is better, this one or the Antec Basiq 500 for $29.99 + tax at Microcenter? |

I would say tax (and shipping for me) for the Antec would make the twenty dollar ocz one better. But if you are just going for quality between the OCZ and Antec, go for the Antec (if it's worth the 13-18 dollars more for you). |
NM...found my answer. |

Ordered 11/04. Received 11/06. Incredible fast shipping! This unit is going into my HTPC build. Tested...very quiet! This thing looks much better than the old Thermaltake I have in the case right now. |

The cable length should only be a concern if your case locates the power supply to the bottom. What makes it bigger issue is some MFGer's route the cables toward the back of the mobo/tray .. Lets not even discuss some mobo locate the power connector(s) to the middle of the board .. I am on the opposite end, I want my cables extremely short. I am waiting for Silverstone's shorty modular set to come back to stock. |

The Antec Basiq is also the Fortran psu. I've done extreme load tests on the Basiq and it did extremely well, if the OCZ is a Fortran than it's probably the same model |
