Holy smokies!! Thats a good deal! Too bad I have hypertension now, otherwise I would jump on this. |
That is an excellent deal. I still have my Saeco Magic Deluxe that I got for $400 as an Amazon refurb. We have 2 or 3 others at various family members' places, and each has been making great espresso for years. I think each has required a small repair (except me, but mine is the newest), but parts are easily sourced online if you can install yourself. If this model is anything like its predecessors, go for it. Good price. |
i know its a good deal compared to the other prices but how much do you have to like espresso to pay 1000 dollars to be able to make it... and what does it do that cheaper ones don't... I guess I just don't get it. But good deal price comparison wise. |
any reviews on this besides Amazon? couldn't find any on coffeegeek |

coffee taste like poo even if you have a nespresso. speaking of which i kinda dig my essanza and lattisima (sp?). at 630am when the kids crying hit one button and done. not sure how these work but not having to clean up much is convenient. if you drink coffee you should consider trading up to espresso of some sort. you end up using alot less junk (sugar, cremer) that tears up your stomach. the gist of most espresso machines is by using 15+ bar pressure and lower brew temperature(150-160F) you extra less toxins than a typical coffee maker (195F). |
Automatics don't shine for making high-end espresso...inability to manage parameters (barista skill) limits the output to potentially above-average at best, assuming fresh, degassed and rested beans. Automatics shine with their limited learning curve, consistency (when kept clean and maintained), and excel in making espresso drinks easily/efficiently (since you're essentially covering up the espresso in milk and sugar). In an office environment, they're almost perfect (still the learning curve, and many won't have that patience), but for a home espresso enthusiast, save the dough and look for a great semi-auto, and hone your barista skills. |
i agree but not everyone has the time. keep in mind starbucks doesn't run semi-auto any more. it's all automated. and tastes burnt to heck. when you got target and kroger employees rolling your starbucks just remember how much money you are throwing away. That $5 starbucks probably cost $1.05 to diy and you don't have to move your azz you make one. starbucks << automatic << barista with semi-auto |
rigor said:coffee taste like poo even if you have a nespresso. hmm... coming from a seasoned barista, the tried and true method for almost all commercial machines, and you can quote me: for a double shot (espresso doppio), if the shots are timed out properly: 20-22g of espresso should yield roughly 7/8-1 1/8 oz of espresso, not counting the crema. You may be right about less toxins, but I don't know about brewing espresso at lower temperatures. |
This better be pretty darn good expresso for $1k..... |
Lots of clueless yahoos on here...that being said for this model it is a stellar deal! Will it pull a better shot then a good non automatic at home machine? no...the same or a bit worse BUT!!!!! You are paying for the simplicity and it will for sure taste better then the crap at Starbucks and cost way less you'll pay it off in 1.5 years if you are a daily drinker (daily as in work day daily and that figure INCLUDES consumables such as beans, water, and electricity)...so yea it is worth it. Would I buy a Saeco? no Would I buy an auto if I time was totally critical since I had 3 kids or more ABSOFARKINLUTYLY!!!!!! |
If you want to make good cheap espresso I recommend a semi-auto machine and a good grinder. They will make a better espresso than you will ever get out of a fully automatic machine. Here are a couple of suggestions: |
nuggy said:This better be pretty darn good expresso for $1k..... This is a SUPER-Automatic machine, which has the advantage of NOT needing to grind, dose, tamp the coffee for each shot. But the reality is that no superauto machine (regardless of brand or price) can come close to a shot from a barista with good technique and a SEMI-Auto or AUTO machine. For $1000 you can pick up the basic tools (grinder, machine, tamper) to make much better espresso. So IF you care more about taste than convenience, pick up a decent semiauto machine. |
The information you are providing is not at all accurate rigor said: |
you are right. The nespresso brews at higher pressure and less temperature to reduce toxins that taste bad. This machine and semi/manual's pull much higher temps and lower pressure. my bad. |
