So I was at Fry's tonight in San Diego picking up some Antec Tri-cool 120mm's, and I spotted the Saitek X52 HOTAS Joystick system for $49.99. They may have had 10-15 boxes that I could see. I believe that there is a new model of the X52 and that this is the older model, which is why the non-refurb was $99.99 instead of $160+ This is the X52 model (amazon). Seems like a decent deal seeing as Amazon is selling used ones for $65, and new ones for $80+. The thing has more buttons than I have fingers. |

These things are pretty nice for as long as they work, but they are notorious for being cheaply made. I returned mine to BB for exchange 4 times, and after that I finally gave up trying. All of the axis tend to develop dead zones toward the outside of their ranges. This is especially true for the throttle slider. Support is for this product is horrendous. You may get responses like "only operate it within this certain temperature range" ...which you can't reasonably expect to maintain. I ditched mine in favor of the more reliable X45, but the features on it don't come close to this thing. Again, very good as long as they work. Get the extended warranty/replacement plan if available. |
