Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5895

15.4-in.TruBrite Widescreen
AMD Turion 64 X2 dual core M TL-60 processor
3GB ddr2 ram
250GB hd
LabelFlash DVD +/- RW Drive
Built in Wireless 802.11b/g WLAN
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 os

best buy had the above model for $499 (they still might). unless there is something i am missing, i dont think its worth an extra $250 for 70 more gigs of HD and 1gb extra ram.

also, the 4gb included is 2x2gb. so in order to get 8gb or ram you need to replace it all.

can get about the same deal from Dell for much better quality. OK deal i'd say

this a good deal, not great though. IMO 4GB of ram of more than enough for tons of applications. The only thing that I would be suspect of is the processor (not an P8...) and the battery life.

First, that deal is expired as of the 19th, and second you are missing several important things. The P7350 is a lower voltage 45nm processor that provides much better battery life. The wireless card and video card are much better (which could be important to some people). The memory is faster (and it comes with 64bit OS which is nice). 4GB chips are crazy expensive, so I think that supporting 8GB is a non-issue at this point. Finally, it comes with a webcam and microphone integrated which could be very appealing to some people.

I think it really depends on what you are looking for, but I think it's a decent deal for those who would like to be able to go in and pick something up today.

Both sustem have the mem. slots full. 8gb would require the 64 bit ver. of Vista anyways, and intel systems have much better battery life, but You coud find a similar system for about $100 less

Actually, the P7 series and P8 series are the same. Just some minor speed differences. The P7350 is 2GHz while the lowest P8400 is 2.26GHz.

Check the stats:

P8400: Link

The Turion has 2x512k of L2 cache whereas the more expensive (Intel) machine has 3MB on the Intel C2Duo.

The more expensive machine is going to be a quite a bit faster. It's not just all about the big ram number, the small cache actually matters a LOT.
