Hmmm... rebate does state:

==================================================
The following products qualify for this rebate:

Any HP Consumer Desktop or Notebook PC

but also:

3. The cutout of the original UPC and serial number barcode
label(s) for each qualifying HP product.
==================================================

Do these come in HP packaging?

Updated the OP with some technical data. Seems like a decent machine - definitely worth extra $50 over the Gateway deal on Bvy.com.

Does anybody know if you can fit a 9800GT series Geforce video card into this case?

Seems like a pretty good deal considering that the Q6600 chips are going for $180 alone...

Why not? It's a very regular case and standard motherboard.

any specific reason why? I've read posts saying get 64bit so Vista can use all of 4GB RAM, and also seen do not get 64bit as some other 3rd party software might have problems? thanks

If this was Vista with Digital Cable support(for cablecards), I'd be all over this....

That makes no sense. ALL versions of Vista with SP1 have Digital Cable support through VMC. Granted you also must purchase a required external digital tuner such as the ATI box with cablecard support but thre is NO special Vista version that is required for digital cable box use. As long as you have SP1 installed and you have NOT previously activated another digitial cable tuner on the PC where you want to add the digital tuner then you are good to go.

Are there drivers available to downgrade to Windows XP?

How about some searching??? Seriosly, people, at least try to do some homework before posting something like this...

Short answer is No; Here is the link to download drivers for either Vista or Vista 64-bit.

Here is the mobo info:

  • Manufacturer: Asus
  • Motherboard Name: IPIBL-LB
  • HP/Compaq motherboard name: Benicia-GL8E

I am sure if you look hard enough, you can found the drivers for XP.

I'd pay a little more and go with a respected retailer like Fry's. Even if the product is refurbished. That wizzard place looks like a scam.

Sorry, you are incorrect, mostly. As it's true that Windows vista media center supports Cablecards, it needs 2 things. The Vista key, will have 2 keys, One for Vista, one for the cable card tuner. The system also needs the bios to enable this feature.

Just because a system has Windows Vista sp1 on it does not mean it will work with cabelcards, you need the extra key (OCUR) and bios for the support. With out these, the system will not let you activate the ATI tuners.

I'm shopping for a sub $600, cable card ready system but, it needs this key/bios combo...

Wizard electronics....is a scam...
From there site FAQ

"What payment methods do you accept?
For the moment we only accept Western Union Money Transfer ServiceŽ (Money in Minutes). We had fraud problems in credit cards processing and we have lost more than US $25,000.00 in shipping items ordered with stolen credit cards and after delivery we had to return the funds to their honest possessors. That's why we no longer accept credit cards for orders. The only solution for the moment is to receive the deposits through Western Union. You can still use your credit card for Western Union online payments HERE.
We are sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding in this matter"
