Strange - when you select option 3 you are transferred to someone who can only accept an application for a Starwood-related American Express card. He didn't know anything about this option.

When I selected option 1 instead to talk to a Starwood specialist, I found through the automated message that I was already in Plus status so I didn't have to complete the call. Good luck to the next brave soul who tries to make this offer work for them! It might work, but option 3 is not the correct option. That's not the OP's fault since the Ameritrade link makes the statement.

OP - Did you complete this upgrade? Did the instructions work for you?

Yeah, and I just ended up with that same person!!!!! He drew a complete blank.

As far as I know, there are three SPG membership tiers: Preferred Guest, Gold Preferred Guest and Platinum Preferred Guest. The extras the OP listed come with Gold or Platinum. I kind of remember the default level being called Preferred Plus, but I threw away my old card when they upgraded me to Gold. I think maybe Preferred Plus is the default if you have their AMEX card.

I pushed option 1, spoke with a person, and had no problem with the upgrade. Thanks OP.

FYI, this isn't a limited time offer. TD Ameritrade has offered this with Starwood for at least a few years.

Is this only for TDAmeritrade clients?

I had no luck with the account rep (via Option 1). I am no longer with TDAmeritrade.

Talked to the member services via Option1. I was told my Gold status has better benefits than the Preferred Plus. If you have Gold or Platinum membership don't call for this upgrade. She said Preferred Plus is one tier less than the Gold.

I would like to clarify a few things. I have starwood gold so I can point a few things out. You are not guaranteed 4PM checkout with pref plus. Sometimes with gold I cant get 4PM checkout. Try that in Vegas hotels and I might get late checkout but not 4PM.Pref plus personalized checkin, whats that? Usually golds and plat can use the other checkin only.

Also gold upgrades only on availability. In big cities there are usually tons of plats which get priority over me. I doubt you see any real upgrades with this.

Doesn't work..You need be Ameritrade member..whoever posted this promotion on FW should have metioned that clearly.
I dialed in, option 3 goes to AMEX application so i Hit 1 and spoke to SPG cust care , after mentioning the promo code rep asked for Ameritrade Account # , which i do not have.

If you throw in that all SPG members earn 2 point/$, this is a pretty accurate description.

I was Preferred Plus for about six months when I first joined SPG, due to having the SPG AMEX. The best that it got me was a room on the SPG floor, even at a hotel that was at less than 50% capacity. It's better than nothing, but a half-step above garbage still stinks.

called. was told that my account got an upgrade. cool.
i liked staying in their four points & Sheraton hotels.

Frankly, this status level has no real value. Upgrades are iffy given that there are ton of Gold members floating around and there are no extra points.

Thanks OP, this was easy.

Thanks OP. I use Starwood AMEX and with points I stay at hotels during my vacation. So, I am always at preferred level. Hopefully, this preferred plus would add some meat to the bone

Worked for me. Thanks OP!!!

ps: Initially she said I needed to do it online, when I mentioned I couldn't, she said she could input a code to make it go through. No problems, didn't even ask about ameritrade.
