AT&T just dropped the price of refurbished Nokia 6085 GoPhone (pay as you go, no contract) to $29.99. This is a quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 cell phone with GPRS/EDGE data capabilities. So, after unlocking, you can use it world-wide. Some more features of the phone:

# VGA digital camera with video capture; MP3/video player
# Expandable via MicroSD card slot; built-in FM radio
# 256,000-color CTSN display with 128 x 160 resolution
# Up to 5 hours of digital talk time and 240 hours of standby time

DealDigs has $29.99 instant Cash Back on this phone right now. According to its blog, you should be able to get your Cash Back as fast as in 48 hours. So, if you buy through DealDigs, your can actually get the phone for Free. Since DD is a deal/Cash Back site, I will not post its link here. Just go to dealdigs.com and you can see this deal on right side. There are also other websites providing CB on this phone, but according to some FW members here, DD is the best and fastest.

Some FAQs:
1. You have to unlock the phone to use it with a different cellular provider.
2. After unlock, you should be able to use in other countries since it is a quad-band phone.
3. You can also flash with other languages (such as Asian language)
4. You can call AT&T to request unlock code or you can pay someone to unlock it
5. The best use for this phone is a backup for your ATT account.
6. No, you don't have to buy the $25 card that is automatically added to cart upon checkout, just click remove.
7. There is no contract required, but you need to choose a prepaid plan(Pay As You Go $.25 per minute or Pay As You Go Unlimited Talk )
8. Yes, the shipping is exceptionally fast.
9. Yes, the refurb phone looks new. Has new covers.

Price increased to $44.99. So this deal is actually dead. But you can get the easy to unlock Samsung A437 for $5 after $29.99 instant Cash Back from DealDigs.

If you buy from DealDigs, you can request payment in PayPal or regular check, both for fee free.

======

You can get it for free after $30 CashBack from Moneyjar. Cahback paid within 48 Hours via paypal.

No luck removing the $25 of airtime when using Extrarebate. Go with Moneyjar instead.

edited by gatzdon: I can confirm that this one works.. I cannot confirm that this is identical to the one on Deal Extreme. Mine has iSim Ver 2 etched into it which is not even on the one pictured. I paid for a different one from Tang Shop, but they shipped this one so beware if you order from them.

The website nor package contained any instructions for the sim adapter.

The adapter fits in my Nokia 6085 without any modification to the SIM Card, just have to be careful to make sure they line up as you close the SIM door.

Mine require both A and B to be notched.

Mine would not work until I set the SIM Pin to 1234 and enabled the PIN Lock. Without the PIN lock, phone would boot up, but not connect to Tmobile.

As of today, both my Nokia 6085's are working OK. I've made and received calls on both.

how do you unlock this (other than thru ATT)?

FYI, plan has to be selected to checkout, so atleast 25$ should be paid out.

Not necessarily. You can remove the $25 prepaid card before you checkout.

You can remove it when checkout

Can I buy this phone, go over seas (Europe -- mainly UK) and buy one of those SIM cards for minutes over there? Seems like a good deal in that case.

don't forget to forward your confirmation email to them.

anyone know if there's a limit on this?

If you unlock it first you should be able to.

Good deal, looks like a nice phone (on paper) especially for free and if unlockable. Nice backup phone for those that have nicer phones, too.

Er, will you get the CashBack without a plan?
Isn't the commission paid to dealdig only with a plan?

Even their example invoice shows a plan.

update: nevermind, figured it out

NO, you can buy as many as you can per their FAQ in another deal. But you must place an individual order for each phone.

Any experience in how long a paper check takes?
Is it worth the extra wait for the 3% savings in paypal fees?

Oh and many many thanks OP. This is about all I can afford for xmas.

Unless you can obtain the subsidy unlock code from AT&T, you may have a problem unlocking this phone. From what I've gathered, the Nokia 6085 is a BaseBand5 (BB5) phone and there aren't any viable or proven unlocking solutions for this model.

Yup BB5 unlocking kit.

But laws have changed recently and I believe providers MUST unlock your phone for you after 90 days.

I told tmobile I was going overseas and they sent me the code without hassle, hopefully att is as easy.

Very nice! My son sent his ATT phone through the wash last week and they wanted $280 to replace his "free" phone. I will put his sim card in this one and we should be good to go. Thanks!

Only because you are a current, paying TMobile customer and added minutes to your phone within x number of days of requesting the unlock.

Tmobile has always been the better one when it comes to providing the unlocking code. However, things may have changed since my last experience.
