Grabbed my 50% off coupon today and hopped in the car to go to Micheal's, a place I have not visited in over a year. Get there and want to buy a gift for a student assistant (set of drawing pencils) and wanted to get a craft set for my class, figuring that would be the best use of my coupon. I get to the kid's craft area and all they have is individual items, no sets. Coupon will not go far here, so I decide to use it on the pencil set. Some of them are up to $30. I get in that aisle and see white and yellow stickers on the racks and ask the guy what is the difference. He said there was none...just what ever color they happen to print out when it is displayed. I spent almost 20 minutes choosing a pencil set, remembering that it had to be regular price to get the discount. Get up to the front, and it rings up on sale, so the coupon will not work. It was priced the same as on the shelf! Have a brief debate with the clerk, who has adequately memorized the "I am sorry but it is already on sale" line and tell her to forget it, that I just will not buy the pencils. At this point it hits me why I have been avoiding Michaels; this has happened to me before. I was talking with another customer and it seems as if Micheal's has a history of running these coupons for discounts on 'regular' priced items, and making sure many (if not most) higher priced items are already discounted, so they will not qualify. It would have probably taken me all afternoon to find a high priced item that qualified.

Yellow stickers are generally clearance items at my local stores, and they will give you the coupon on clearance even though it says otherwise on the coupon. They did not always do that. Sale items like the ones advertised in their ad won't work with the coupon. I was set to use the one from the Sunday paper today (expires today) but now I can get even more, thanks! |
